On Saturday morning we got up early. For me it was 6:15 A.M. early. Then after we got to the church around 8 and we left around 10. After a brief talk about safety, we set out on the silver comet. The trip went smoothly until after lunch. After lunch we set out again, and we were told to stop at the 19-mile marker. The problem was, that after that after the break there were NO water stops at all until the end. Which was around the 34-mile mark. The person I was riding with had one bottle of water and it was getting low. So with know water stops until the end he was getting thirsty. I gave him some of mine, but I ran out quickly also. We made it though, and the free Gatorade at end was a welcome sign for us.
When we got our tents we set up, we then proceeded to set up our dining fly. Then Eric and Dr. Denton left to pick up some other bikers. I thought the extra bikers had to cook for a requirement so we had to wait until 8 to discover they don’t need to cook, so we could’ve ate earlier but oh well. Dinner was…interesting…First John Cox cut his finger while cutting tomatoes, then the fire was so hot and big it was almost impossible to cook on it, but luckily we made it through the night. At about 9 we headed out for the corn maze, and boy did some of us get lost! It took from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes to get out. After that most of us just went to bed. On Sunday morning we had…DONUTS!! That was a bad mistake on my part to get them, as they didn’t stick at all. And the fact that the adults had a really good-looking breakfast didn’t help. Then…. Disaster struck! It started pouring down rain. Not only did we have to hold the dining fly down, but Josiah’s tent wasn’t staked so he had to catch it after it blew away. So we just stood there for 30 minutes, holding the dining fly down. After words we went on a tour of the farm. We got to see the machinery, the cows, and lots and lots of chicks… There was also a 600-pound pig that isn’t there anymore…. I give this campout an 8 out of 10 because it was fun, but was tiring and wet. Written by Sam Logsdon
